Survive winter on the Mississippi Gulf Coast

It’s interesting how we all become used to our own climates. My wife lived in Hawaii before I met her and she told me that during the “winter” people were cool at 69 degrees. If you live in Wisconsin during winter, 69 degrees is heaven. I live along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and when winter hits some time in January, I wear pants for a few days when not working my real estate business.

I put on a coat when walking along the beach on a few days. If I had travelled from Pennsylvania or New York at that time, I would be wearing short sleeves and shorts. When you can go somewhere else and experience a 60+ degree difference in the weather, it’s warm.

This is why visiting the Mississippi Gulf Coast during the winter is a good idea. The sun shines across the Gulf of Mexico and the beaches are wide open. Frankly, they are wide open all year but they are more wide open in the winter. There are fire rings for those of you who have a problem with weather in the 60’s and low 70’s. We do have an occasional 80+ degree day during the short winter.

Prices for vacation rentals are at their lowest in January and part of February. Also, you can come during Mardi Gras where parades are held in all of the coastal cities. Come during St. Patricks day in March and see the parade. We have lots of parades here and other events as well during the winter.

Fishing is good for some varieties of fish that seem to come out in large quantities during the cooler months. Art galleries are open along with other venues including the Aquarium.

Visit your favorite casino or go from one to the other and test their great food.

Take a side trip to New Orleans one day and walk around the French Quarter then visit the WWII museum. Visit Mobile the next day and see the ships including a battleship. Visit our short term rental website and read more about activities here.

Bring your family to the Gulf Coast for Christmas or New Years. We have properties that can sleep up to 13 people and even two houses next to each other that can sleep up to 22 people. Why sit at home for another winter? Get out and have some fun.
